In addition, American Forces Network (AFN) stations world-wide used to air Married... with Children.

Many jokes on the show make no sense when you are not familiar with events which happened in the USA or with American lifestyle in general. In dubbed versions, these jokes are sometimes changed into local ones. Dubbing gives also the opportunity to change often used expressions. E.g. "Pumpkin" (Al's pet name for Kelly) is "lapin rose" (pink bunny, normally used for little girls) in French, "Dumpfbacke" (dimwit; lit.: dullcheek) in German and "calabacita" (little pumpkin) in Spanish. However, the names of the characters are usually the same all over the world. Exceptions: Bundy becomes Bunda in Czechia (bunda means jacket in Czech), Buck is called Bruno in Hungary and Devorador ("devourer") in Spanish-language Latin America.

In some countries, Married... with Children is quite popular, like in Germany. In Switzerland, Ed O'Neill (who plays Al) can even make TV commercials without an explanation of his identity. In the Netherlands (where people speak Dutch), he made a TV commercial for the shoe business, literally saying: "If your shoes look like shit, you look like shit." A special way to convert the original version into a foreign one is used in Poland. I called this method "Simultaneous Interpretation". You can still hear the original sound in the background, but a single narrator translates what the characters say.

In some countries, pre-primetime premieres or reruns are censored, especially sexual expressions. For instance in the UK, you never heard Peggy's maiden name (Wanker) on Sky's pre-primetime. The UK station censors also cut out scenes which are considered to be violent, e.g. Bud "cutting" Kelly's throat in the pilot. Following these standards, a lot of episodes would need so many edits that they are shown on primetime without any modifications. However, MwC is shown uncut in Britain on Paramount Comedy right now.
